Modern Europe stands on the foundations

Of Cathedrals preceded by monasteries

700 of them at a days walking distance

For the medieval monk on the move to rest

Pray and refresh for onward march to reach

Messages, precious doctrine and debates

To build a Cathedral it took decades

People from lowly masons to designers

Those who housed them, their families

Provided for their sustenance, farming

Trading and commerce centralised

Into Guilds forming the economy Feudal

Serfs and near to slaving common folk

A culture gets evolved around a Cathedral

Eventually the centre of learning, business

The birth of the nowhere land into city fame

They criss cross the Europe of today

Reminders of a mode of faith being central

To life and it meant everything literally

It makes sense to observe that behind

Separation of faith and state from England

Henry had more than power and name

At stake when the economy was in hands

Of monks and monasteries and families

That nurtured and sustained a way

A new order emerges with Protestantism

Paving way for an alternative power

Sided by an alternative mode of wealth

Enshrined today in Industrialisation

The birth of parishes and churches small

For the gentry located where they produced

In factories or farmlands for the higher

Order of clergy, governance and state

The guilds give way in this transition

To an order known as Capital industry

Of Marxian fame today and Manchester

Mills, paving the way for cotton competition

Of fabrics from far off lands, colonial

The layering of a new justice system built

On ruins of pre colonial times in India

Another world yet not extinguished

As with China and other aspirants New Order

It all began with the making of a Cathedral

Including one here at the Vatican.

Spanning millennia and seeking for New

Order of faith in a world weary of war

Decimation of the lowly and far off

Such audacity of dominance needing

Corrective from faith and the core truth

Needing reselling in a new language

The world today needs to hear.
