Time to Prepare: reading, reflecting
Taking notes and creating a text
Getting it printed, having it thought out
Keeping the congregation in mind
Their faces – some of them – come
before you – as you intend your
words – How it’ll suit them
Be received by them.
Yes, some of them do respond on
way out – it was a good homily.
Well, where is the hitch then
As it all looks so easy for a
veteran into 30+ years of
preaching – yet it ain’t easy
The impact it has on you
Me – Do I have the right
to preach down, at, unto
Others – Do I stand implicated
in the very advice as the one
who needs most – deserves
The criticism was slightly intended
for others. Oh yes, it exposes
And precisely, isn’t it easy
